EDUCATION ON CONSENT FOR CHILDREN THROUGH THE DESIGN OF AN ILLUSTRATED BOOK INSPIRED BY THE THEME "C IS FOR CONSENT" BY ELEANOR MORRISON

Abstract


Perancangan buku ilustrasi ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kebutuhan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman tentang consent pada anak-anak usia dini. Buku ini bertujuan untuk menormalisasikan kegiatan meminta izin atau dimintai izin untuk melakukan sesuatu yang melibatkan orang lain, dengan berfokus pada penghormatan terhadap otonomi tubuh, serta mengulas berbagai cara seseorang dapat mengatakan atau menunjukkan kata “Iya” dan “Tidak”. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara dengan orang tua yang memiliki anak usia dini, serta observasi terhadap cara mereka mengajarkan nilai-nilai tersebut, menunjukkan bahwa meskipun orang tua menyadari pentingnya edukasi tentang consent, masih banyak yang belum memiliki metode yang konkret untuk menyampaikannya. Melalui ilustrasi yang menarik serta narasi yang mudah dipahami, diharapkan menjadi sarana yang efektif dalam memberikan edukasi yang menyenangkan dan mudah diterima oleh anak-anak.

The design of this illustrated book is motivated by the need to enhance understanding of consent among young children. This book emphasizes on the importance of normalizing the act of seeking and granting permission, particularly in interactions involving others, focusing on respect for bodily autonomy and exploring various ways an individual can express “Yes” and “No”. Data collection involved interviews with parents of young children and observations of their methods in teaching these values. Findings revealed that while parents recognize the importance of educating children about consent, they often lack strategies to convey it effectively. Engaging through illustrations and simple narratives in storytelling, this book aims to provide as an effective, enjoyable, and easily accessible educational tool for children.
